Mercy Physicians Medical Group ("MPMG") is proud to have in place an excellent team of physicians to manage acute and skilled in-patient care for all of our members. This team of highly qualified Hospitalists works collaboratively with your Primary Care Physician ("PCP") and MPMG Specialists to insure a safe, speedy recovery and the highest quality medical care for you if you are hospitalized at Scripps Mercy Hospital.
What is a "Hospitalist"? A Hospitalist is a physician who specializes in caring for patients in the hospital. Generally they do not see patients in an outside medical practice. They work in the hospital and are available to patients throughout the day. They assist you to a speedy recovery by following up on test results and adjusitng your treatment regimen based on those results. They are available to speak to you and your family members and answer questions regarding your care.
Hospitalists are in close contact with your PCP during your hospital stay. This communication allows your PCP to advise the Hospitalist regarding any prior illnesses or problems that may affect your current care. Likewise, the Hospitalist keeps your PCP informed of your condition and progress while in the hospital. When you are ready for discharge, the Hospitalist provides your PCP with a complete report of your condition, test results and any medication changes. The Hospitalist and MPMG's Case Manager will assist you with discharge planning and provide for any care or medical equipment you may need. Your PCP will also be advised as to any additional care or treatments that have been recommended. When you are discharged from the hospital, you will return to your PCP for continued care.
